Ponnuthaayi !

After finished watching VS' Love Panna Uttranum, I was confused between which one to watch next in order, either GVM's Vaan Magal or Sudha's Thangam . I saw a lot of appreciation for Thangam, henceforth I planned to watch Thangam at No.3 and had to go for GVM's Vaan Magal. This is Part - 2 of Paava Kadhaigal review,a write-up on GVM's Vaan Magal . The story is primarily based on the question - "Must women carry the trash of honour?" If your answer is yes, this film isn't for you (better watch some Telugu movies). You say, "No," this piece is for you people - (mild spoiler ahead) - and the climax too 😉 Since GVM's movies are usually based on some Metro-cities with English speaking characters, lavish lifestyle and stuffs like that (I couldn't resist using the word 'stuffs,' as this is a write-up on GVM), he is new to this zone and thus, I felt, he is bit amateurish on this theme. However, GVM managed to construct t...

ESPN ah ?

This is my first review for a film - to say precisely, for a short film. Bear with that ! I remember the interview of Paava Kadhigal directors with the film critic Baradwaj Rangan, in which Director Vetri Maran said that the audience would see Vignesh's film first and would see the segments of rest of us directors' film later.Vetri Maran justified the above statement saying that Vignesh's movie used to have a sense of humour which would entice the audience. I too started watching in the order of Vignesh Shivan's film at first. This is Part - 1 of Paava Kadhaigal review.  So, first I shall review Director Vignesh Shivan's (Vignesh Shivan ah illa Vignesh ShivN ah ?) "Love Panna Uttranum"     (Pic Courtesy : Madbird) I don't want to iterate the story of this segment, as some of you would have seen the film - others you wouldn't have seen. In the same way, the film begins with Kalki Koechlin reciting a poem of Avvaiyaar and conc...

Jigarthanda Movie Poster Analysis

Image
When I posted the above image with the caption - 'Next on the list of Poster Analysis is',many precisely guessed the film which is none other than, At first, I thought of analysing an other Tamil movie poster; but suddenly this movie came into my mind and therefore I stuck with analysing this and found various details in the posters of Jigarthanda movie. When it comes to Director Karthik Subbaraj,he focuses on every aspects of the film, especially Poster designing which gives the first impression to the audiences. And,this poster was designed by Tuney John , who is the favourite designer of Karthik Subbaraj. Coming into the analysis of the poster, first thing to be noted is that every posters are hand-drawn illustrations . And the prime theme of these Posters are "Unfinished Art" which is in accordance with the Protagonist's story line. So, every posters of this movie aren't completed fully. ...

Aruvi Movie Poster Analysis

Image
This time it's Poster Analysis of film Aruvi, directed by Arun Prabhu Purushothaman, acted (sorry) lived by Aditi Balan. This poster was designed by Sivam C Kabilan Coming to the analysis of this poster,I would say for sure, that this poster is a Surrealistic poster. A Machine gun in the hands of a woman attired in a goddess suit is completely an Irrational juxtaposition. But,here I refers Surrealism as a Rational juxtaposition of images since it's logically connected with the film. Moreover, this is Post-Modernist poster in terms of usage of colour patterns. And the designer potrays the actress Aditi Balan as a free-spirit;radical woman. The most important thing to be noted here is that 'Bottles' behind her.It is one of the major plot points of the movie which was being placed in the poster logically. And I feel that the heart placed here may be attributed to her compassion and kindness during that hostage montage or that may indicate her forgive...

Soodhu Kavvum Movie Poster Analysis

Image
Next in the list of Kollywood poster analysis is Soodhu Kavvum. The poster of Soodhu Kavvum has always a special place in every Moviebuff's mind.It was such a design, whereas this kind of poster design is attributed to poster of nearly 20 years ago. It was designed by Vinci Raj, who later on went to work for Superstar Rajnikanth's Kabali Publicity Design. So,what makes this poster unique is that Floral Kaleidoscopic Border. Without that border,if you just imagine this poster,it would look as simple as an amateur design.Only that Border made this poster one of the top posters of Kollywood. Next thing to be noted is that Colour pattern, which is contradictory to the actors' reaction. That is the colour texture seems to be warm but the reaction of actors' seemed to give a comedy effect. This way,it has been distinguished. In the above two posters you can see two birds namely Peacock and Eagle near the title. See what those symb...

Aaranya Kaandam Movie Poster Analysis

Image
Next in the list is Aaranya Kaandam movie poster by Gopi Prasanna sir. This is his debut poster and this marked him one of the top Publicity Designers in Kollywood town. I would say for sure, that only this poster design made every directors to concentrate on Poster design too.Until then, Movie posters were not given much importance by directors. This change in every directors' mind is only because of Thiagarajan Kumararaja sir and Gopi Prasanna sir. Though this posters doesn't come under the concept of Minimalism, the usage of Monochrome colour pattern makes this poster one of the best posters in Kollywood. No other colour combining with Black would give this much effect other than Yellow. This shows GP sir's knowledge of using colour patterns in an attractive way. Moreover this poster looks like an Old Magazines' cover or Comic strips. One important thing to note is that the Font used in the poster.I remember this kind of Font's usage in one of the Taranti...
